To everyone who spat at my feet in contempt, calling me racist at worst and a bad liberal at best for pulling my children out of the public school system, consider this little gem from the Virginia Board of Education:  Firestorm Erupts Over Education Goals.

It can hardly be made more stark. Racism is endemic to the system. I want no part of it. This is from VIRGINIA, people. We aren't even talking South Carolina or Mississippi. Florida, apparently, has done the same thing but at least set higher standards. This is from modern educators working now in today's world. Who could possibly think this is okay? Sheesh.

On the upside, at least "No White Children Left Behind" is an honest statement of intention.

  1. I assume the goal is to continue getting funding, so the only solution for institutionalized racism (where poverty is the real issue) is more institutionalized inequality. It's absurd. The word is getting around. Teachers are appalled. And, they shrug, "I get it".

  2. I can't believe anyone would call *you* a racist for what you wrote, when it's the new standards you were responding to that are shockingly racist! Boggles my mind...

  3. The implication is that homeschoolers are racist for pulling our (implied) "white fortunate" children out of the system. So leaving the system to the (implied) "not white less fortunate" children. Its an argument left over from the days of desegregation. And I see the validity of the point---I am pro desegregation. I also fully support Affirmative Action. Of course, as homeschoolers we all know we are not all white, not all wealthy, and not interested in segregation.

  4. Ah, I see...
Yes - I was an avid public school proponent...until I became a mother...
Also, I went through a pretty awesome public school system (very white) - long before Bush & his 'no child left behind'...
