Ha ha! :) It is red clay mixed with fat. I think it also provides a bit of sun protection. It gives the skin this beautiful red hue. Such beautiful people. My mum taught Himba kiddies in North Namibia years ago and she always goes on about how it was the best time of her life living amongst the gentlest of gentle people. xx
he is attempting to teach her..."see?" he shows, wanting to be a helper. she wants independence. she grabs the resource he has garnered for himself. he says no and shoves her away. she is mad. she resorts to a bite. he cries out. no one responds. he takes matters into his own hands. he inflicts pain back. she is appalled and shrieks and weeps, falling over in dramatic victimhood while he seemingly shrugs it off.....ahhhh gender, the world around. i certainly saw/see it play this way in my life.
Kirsten and I went to this movie and loved it. It's just so lovely, though the little baby in Mongolia made us very nervous. Roger Ebert reviewed it.

I love his comment at the end: "Did I like the movie? Aww, yeah I did. How could I not?"
love, Val
We LOVE this movie. Especially the Himba baby in Namibia. Made me cry from homesickness! So pure and awesome.
